Can I get permission to waive a prerequisite or take it as a co-requisite?
Prerequisites serve an important purpose, which is to build the foundation for an advanced course. For this reason we do not waive prerequisites or give permission to take them as corequisites. If you have unusual circumstances, please speak to one of the departmental advisors: either Professor Clifford Wymbs (Room 12-284 VC, clifford.wymbs@baruch.cuny.edu, tel: 646-312-3299) for International Business (IB) courses, the IB major or the IB minor, and the International Marketing track, or Professor David Luna (Room 12-245, david.luna@baruch.cuny.edu, tel: 646-312-3274) for all other courses and tracks. Note that scheduling conflicts do NOT constitute a valid reason to waive a prerequisite.
Can I get permission to get into a class that is closed?
Sorry, neither the instructor nor the department is authorized to enroll you in a closed class. You need to get on the waiting list for the class (accessed through e-SIMS or the Registrar’s website), which is maintained by the Dean’s office. If they decide to open it up, you will be able to get in. If you are a graduating senior, go to the Dean’s Office (13-270 VC) — speak to Tara Sinclair, Judy Tse or Robert Bob Freedman and let them know about your situation. They can also tell you your position on the waiting list.
Graduate students: Please see Pat Lewis or Elaine Bernstein in the Graduate Academic Services Office (13-227 VC).
Can I get permission to register for MKT 3000 Marketing Foundations?
The department is not authorized to give permission for this course. You need to go to the Dean’s Office (13-270 VC). Last updated 3/6/09
Can I get permission to register for MKT 5750 Marketing Strategy? I am not able to register because I am not a senior, or have not completed all the prerequisites.
If you are not a senior, you cannot get permission for the course. If you will
be a senior at the end of this semester, go to the Dean's office about three
weeks before the next semester starts and tell them that you want to register.
They may be able to help you.
I have taken the prerequisite but am not able to register for the course. Why is this?
The problem may be that the prerequisite you took was not the right one, or you are not enrolled in the Zicklin School of Business. In the latter case, you need to wait until you are enrolled in ZSB, or you must go to the Dean’s Office (13-270 VC) for permission.
How do I register for an Independent Study (MKT 5000, IBS 5000 or MKT 9799)? Can it be used as an elective for the major?
You need to find an instructor who is willing to guide you, and the study must be on a topic that is not covered in an existing course. You should give the instructor a proposal (indicating the topic, how you plan to study it, the deliverables and the timeline). Once the instructor approves it, he/she should email the proposal to the Chair and say that they are willing to guide the student. We will then set up the permission for you to take the course.
MKT 5000 can be used as an elective for the Marketing track in the major (undergraduate). IBS 5000 can be used as an elective for the IB major (undergraduate). MKT 9799 can be used as an elective for the Marketing major (graduate). You may only take an Independent Study once in your program.
I am not enrolled in the Zicklin School of Business. Can I get permission to take a class in your department?
The department is not authorized to give permission for non-Zicklin students. You need to go to the Dean’s Office (13-270 VC).
