BBA in Accountancy

BBA Accounting Major Requirements

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

As of Fall 2009, ACC 4300 is replaced with TAX 3300. TAX 3300 can be taken along with 3000 or 4000 level accounting courses. The two course limitation on accounting courses does not include TAX 3300. Students may take two 3000 level accounting courses and TAX 3300 and they may take two 4000 level accounting courses and TAX 3300. Students MAY NOT combine 3000 and 4000 level accounting courses in the same semester.

To be an official accounting major, students MUST have a GPA of 2.5 or above in the following 3000 level accounting courses: ACC 3202, 3000, 3100, and 3200. Exceptions are never made to these policies.

Beginning Fall 2009, Baruch's Accounting Faculty Adjusts the BBA, Accounting Major, Giving Students More Choices.

The Pre-Fall '09 Accounting Major Options

Below are the two "tracks" that describe the options students majoring in accounting have had prior to the introduction of the accounting major changes in Fall 2009. Currently enrolled students will find that all the courses necessary to complete either of these tracks are still being offered, with the exception of ACC 5400 (Auditing) which becomes an "honors" course only available to students with a minimum overall GPA of 3.5. (Students unable to qualify can substitute one of the Internal Audit courses.)

(1) BBA Public Accounting/CPA Track

      • Meets NY State CPA requirements until August 1, 2009, but students must both graduate by June 2009 AND submit their application to take the CPA exam before the August 1 deadline. [The CPA exam itself may be taken after the August 1 deadline.]

      • Beginning Fall 2009, Baruch's remaining CPA programs will be the 5 Year Bachelor's/Master's.

      (2) BBA Accounting/Internal Auditing (IA) Track

Note: There will no longer be an "Internal Audit Track" as a separate track.

For Undergraduate Accounting Majors Planning to Meet the NY State 150 Credit CPA Requirements at Baruch:

The 5 Year Bachelor’s/Master’s CPA Programs

          • These combine the BBA in accounting with the MS in accounting or taxation (MS admission requirements must be met during the senior year),
            • Excellent preparation for the CPA exam and careers in public accounting,
            • Includes favorable admission requirements for the MS program,
            • Once BBA students have met the MS admission requirements, they can get a head start on their graduate program by taking graduate courses in their senior year.
